I have a HUGE problem?

our fridge and freezer broke in our apartment. first the temperature broke, and then when i tried defrosting the freezer today, the inside bubbled and the settings nob broke. we are thinking of buying a mini fridge or used one to replace the current one, but it initially started with temp problems. the only way the landlords are offering to fix it is if they come when we aren't home, AND we would have to pay at least $65. shouldn't they owe us money for the food that spoiled? im pulling my hair out about all this. any help?
