Why do YOU think teenagers are smoking/drinking at early age?

I'm only in 9th grade, and there are 8th graders at the middle school who smoke like a chimney and tell stories all the live long day about what they did when they were plastered. Not to mention most of the kids in my homeroom smoke. I think it's to impress their friends so they'll be percieved as "cool". What's your hypothesis?
