How can I make it easier for my iguana to eat soft fruit?

I have had 2 iguanas now, and both have a problem keeping soft fruit (like bananas) in their mouth. I have tried cutting them small, holding the fruit on toothpicks, but nothing seems to work. Both like the fruit, but often get too frustrated trying to eat it and give up after a few tries. Any tips on how to make it easier for them to grab?
